Quickly Learn About TAIS
TAIS is an US education based junior and senior high school designed according to Maryland (USA) secondary curriculum standards and guided by an experimental education philosophy. It provides a holistic American education that emphasizes character development, independent thinking, and diverse learning in a caring environment distinct from the traditional Taiwan education system. Both Taiwanese and international students may apply—a second passport is not required. The academic program is U.S.-based (AP-oriented holistic education) covering Grades 7–12, with a strong focus on both academic excellence and character formation. Welcome to submit the admission application.
TAIS faculty consist of qualified international educators certified to teach US education based holistic curricula across subject areas. The overall student–teacher ratio is 4:1, with small-class instruction using U.S. secondary school materials. Most foreign teachers are trained within the Adventist education system and must hold valid teaching credentials from their home countries. TAIS faculty are also reviewed by Griggs International Academy (G.I.A.), the Seventh-day Adventist education system, Taiwan Ministry of Education, and the Nantou County Education Department. Teachers are professional educators not missionaries or unqualified foreigners.
  • Grades 7–8: One class per level based on English proficiency, approximately 3–15 students.
  • Grades 9–12: Courses are scheduled based on graduation requirements; students attend different subject classes, each with 3–18 students.
TAIS follows the tradition of Western private boarding schools and is primarily a residential program. Except for students living near Yuchi or Puli, boarding is required. Dorm life and weekend activities foster strong teacher–student relationships, personal growth, independence, and life skills while helping students explore interests and future academic directions.
  • Grades 7–8: Additional bilingual support in some core subjects or differentiated materials based on English level; an extra Language Arts course strengthens foundational English.
  • Grades 9+: Students begin with ELL (English Language Learning) courses alongside selected credit-bearing subjects (e.g., PE or computer classes). Once students reach CEFR B2, they transition to full-credit academic courses.
ELL support is built into the regular schedule—there are no separate remedial classes. Students may also arrange free after-school academic consultations with teachers. Daily English immersion gradually strengthens language ability without the need for outside cram schools.
TAIS operates under Christian values and principles inspired by the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, but students are not required to change their personal beliefs, and all students are treated equally. All students take a “Life & Interpersonal Education” course focusing on character development.
  • Grades 7–8: Bible stories and character education appropriate to students’ age.
  • Grades 9+: Academic exploration of the Bible alongside personal growth and well-being topics, helping students better understand Western culture  and themselves.
No. TAIS graduates may apply to universities in any country that recognizes a U.S. high school diploma. Students hold dual Taiwan–U.S. academic status, and the U.S. diploma is fully recognized. Taiwan experimental education completion documents are approved by the Ministry of Education. Graduates have multiple pathways worldwide, and past students have not experienced admission issues due to diploma recognition.
Yes. As a standard U.S. high school program, Grades 9–12 students must complete recognized college readiness assessments (e.g., ACT, SAT), similar to students in other systems taking national entrance exams. TAIS does not offer guaranteed direct admission partnerships. Instead, students are encouraged to develop individual strengths and pursue universities globally without restriction.
In terms of college counseling, TAIS encourages students to explore their individual potential and develop personal strengths, preparing them for university opportunities worldwide. Students are not limited to applying to universities in a single country, nor are they restricted to a small number of partner institutions. Currently, TAIS does not offer direct-entry agreements with specific universities; instead, students are equipped with globally recognized qualifications that allow flexible and unrestricted academic pathways.
TAIS provides a structured dormitory system led by dorm deans and senior student leaders. Students learn daily life skills --laundry, personal organization, and time management through guided practice and community living. Each dorm (boys/girls) has a dedicated dean who supports students with care and patience, similar to a parental role, while also providing emotional support and daily life assistance.
